CLEVELAND, OH - Gibson Guitar the world's premier musical instrument manufacturer and leader in music technology announced its 50th Anniversary of the ES-335 Guitar with Larry Carlton and guests at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday, June 30, 2008. The Gibson ES-335 was the world's first commercial semi-hollowbody electric guitar originally released by the musical giant in 1958. The ES in the series stands for "electric spanish" and its neither hollow nor solid, instead, a solid wood block runs through the center of its body but the sides are hollow sporting violin - style f-holes. Artists from around the world have succeeded in recording top charting songs and played to hundreds of thousands of fans with the ES-335 guitar. In celebration of the guitar's rich history a special one-night performance and filming will take place at the Rock Hall.

On Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m., "Mr. ES-335" himself, Larry Carlton and a collection of other greats will pay homage to this important guitar classic. Larry will lead an all-star performance with his famous friends and musicians including John Pizzarelli, Gary Pucket, Joe Bonamassa, Dennis Coffey, and Matthew Shariff-Hobley. The event will be hosted by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Director of Curatorial Affairs, Howard Kramer. Seating is limited. Tickets go on sale for $10 Tuesday, June 17 and will be available through Ticketmaster www.ticketmaster.com and at the Rock Hall's box office. Rock Hall Members can attend the concert free of charge, but must RSVP.

The Gibson 50th Anniversary of the ES-335 event plays tribute to the guitar that gained instant success when it first introduced. Taken up quickly in the late 50's by adventurous jazz and country players who recognized its advantages, the ES-335 rapidly proved itself equally at home in the hands of blues, pop and rock players. One of the most versatile electric guitars ever produced, it has been a Gibson mainstay and one of the most popular Gibson guitars ever since.

Larry Carlton will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Larry Carlton, one of the greatest jazz, pop and rock guitarists of our time, divides his recording time between solo recordings, touring and session appearances. Over his career, Carlton has won three Grammy Awards and composed such theme songs as that heard on television's hit show from years ago, Hill Street Blues. Carlton began playing guitar when he was six years old, studying under Slim Edwards near his Torrance, California home, taking an interest in jazz in high school. His playing style was most influenced by guitarists Joe Pass Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel, and B.B. King. Carlton is a sought after session musician in Los Angeles, appearing on up to 500 recordings a year, including albums by Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, Quincy Jones, The Crusaders, Lee Rittenour. His guitar work on Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne “ has been listed as the third best guitar solo o n record by Rolling Stone magazine. www.LarryCarlton.com www.Mr335.tv  www.335records.com
